People come to Denmark expecting flat and grey. What they find is light — long, low, northern light that turns ordinary afternoons silver. These are the places I keep coming back to.
Møns Klint, first. White chalk cliffs falling into a green-blue Baltic, with beech forest growing right up to the edge. On overcast days the whole scene goes soft and painterly, which is exactly what film loves. It's a long drive from Copenhagen and worth every minute of it.
Then, Bornholm in the summer. Denmark's only rocks and where I find the most beautiful sunsets and secret beaches. Plus it helps being a fan of ceramics - I think you can find the best ones in the country with inspiring artisans behind each work.
Truthfully, the place matters less than the light and the people standing in it. Give me an overcast morning and two people who like each other, and almost anywhere in Denmark becomes the right place.
